Salisbury Steak

Salisbury Steak header.jpgGround beef is combined with breadcrumbs and sauteed onions then shaped into patties and simmered in a beef gravy to create a lightened version of this American dish.

Serve this with mashed potatoes and a veggie and you have a complete meal.

Salisbury steak ingredients.jpgLets get cookin’. We will need potatoes, ground beef, egg, Italian bread crumbs, an onion, tomato paste, flour, salt, pepper, red wine vinegar, mustard and worcestershire.

 

salisbury steak onions.jpgDice your onion and sauté in a little oil until translucent. About 5 minutes. Then combine half your onions, ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, 1/4 cup beef broth, salt and black pepper. The shape into 4 oval patties.

In a large deep skillet over medium-high heat, brown both sides of patties.

In a small bowl, blend flour and remaining broth until smooth. Mix in remaining onions, tomato paste, vinegar, water, worcestershire sauce and mustard powder. Pour over meat in skillet. Cover and cook on low for 20 minutes. Every so often spoon the gravy over the patties to keep them moist and infuse the gravy goodness into the patties. Meanwhile cut up your potatoes, boil them and mash them. Don’t forget to add copious amounts of butter.

1 1/2 tsp oil
3/4 cup onions, minced
1 lbs ground beef
1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs
1 large egg
4 cups beef broth
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp ground black pepper, to taste
4 tbsp all-purpose flour
4 tbsp tomato paste
2 tsp red wine vinegar
4 tsp Worcestershire sauce, to taste
1 tsp mustard powder
1/2 cup water

Directions:
